Colne,

Berth: 2 days 1 night 30 points
Bareboat as per points table

Past the Naze and down 'The Wallet' this is another easy destination for a weekend. First we turn into the Blackwater and then bear off to starboard and up the Colne. Depending on the tides we can explore Pyefleet Channel behind Mersea Island, universally acknowledged as one of the quietest most unspoilt anchorages on the East Coast. Or we can turn to starboard again and head for Brightlingsea. The home to a keen smack fleet and the Brightlingsea One Design racing class.

Whenever we go, one place we must visit on this weekend is the Company Shed at West Mersea. Beligerantly unbending to modern concepts of design, The Company Shed flourishes on the simple philosophy of supplying the freshest seafood and nothing else. If you are lucky, you can eat in but remember to BYOB, or we take away a succulent selection, raft up and have picnic.

For a taster have a look at the second section of the blog from our trip in August .
